Oral surgery is surgery that relates to the mouth, face and jaws. It is indicated when the treatment required is more complex. The most common oral surgery undertaken is removal of impacted wisdom teeth. Another common oral surgery procedure is the placement of dental implants. Other surgeries can include biopsies, treatment of jaw fractures or severe infections.
A general dentist can do some of these procedures but for extra difficult cases we may need to refer you to an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon (OMS). If treatment is surgically difficult or you have medical conditions that require you to be treated in a hospital we will need to refer you for this to our local OMS.
