Matthew is a kind, compassionate and understanding dentist who puts time and effort into ensuring that your visit to the dentist is a positive experience.
He is originally from Toronto, Canada and immigrated to New Zealand in 2011. Following high school and training at the Faculty of Dentistry in Dunedin, he graduated from the University of Otago in 2019 with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery. He spent 2020 working in the Dental and Maxillofacial Departments at Waikato Hospital learning to safely treat patients with complex medical backgrounds as well as carrying out emergency dentistry for those in need. Matthew takes pride in thorough, comprehensive care for every patient ensuring that the oral health needs of the greater Tauranga area are being serviced through his work at Duncan Dental. He advocates for conservative and preventative measures giving his patients the knowledge and the tools they need to care for their oral health long-term.
Matthew continues to further his education in his field for the benefit of his patients ensuring that he provides the most evidence-based and up-to-date treatments for patients. When not at work he will be tramping or getting involved in community-based events.
Stuart graduated from Edinburgh University in 1986 and worked in Bristol and Jersey before moving to NZ in 2014 working in Christchurch, Nelson, Greymouth and Wellington before settling in Tauranga.
He commutes to Wellington and Taupo every month, where he has orthodontic lists; he tries to avoid extractions where possible and is an advocate of functional appliances in growing adolescents, where the jaws do not match. He holds a Diploma in Orthodontics and is currently studying for his Masters in Orthodontics.
Stuart has also been trained in Fibre-Bond build ups. This allows patients to have 1 appointment for immediate , composite based, veneers, crowns, bridges and splinting of wobbly teeth at much lower cost than alternative, traditional crowns and bridges.
Stuart has taken part in mentoring young dentists throughout his career and informally mentors fellow dentists in general practice and orthodontics and is proud to be involved as a mentor on the NZDA mentoring scheme helping young NZ dentists.
Stuart is constantly looking for the best materials and products to use on patients, to give the best and longest lasting results.
Colette has been a dental assistant for her entire working life, both in the UK and in Tauranga. She has been integral in helping care for our patients in this practice for over 12 years. Not to be confused with the mother from Bates Motel, Colette will always greet you with a smile and a cheerful laugh and is extremely good at putting patients at ease. In her spare time Colette is a very dedicated Mum and Nana to her 6 grandchildren. She enjoys the beach, walking and riding her bike (although after her last injury we are staging an intervention on bike safety). One of Colette''s favourite past-times is mowing lawns and water-blasting and we are very confident that she applies these well-developed skills to her job of cleaning tools and instruments here at work.
Lisa has enjoyed many happy years as a midwife, but recently has become a key part of the practice. She is currently studying the Certificate of Dental Assisting to keep her informed of best dental practice.
In her spare time she enjoys cooking and spending time outdoors with her family and dogs.
Georgina trained and worked as a school dental nurse after leaving school until starting a family. She comes from a diary farming background and enjoys walking, beach and city life. She has previously owned her own businesses but now is back in the dental world and enjoying her job very much.
Chris, John, Richard and Robert are all senior, highly experienced dentists in general practice and have practised at Elizabeth Street in Tauranga for many years. They have a very loyal patient base and are supported in their practice by a practice manager, a receptionist and six dental assistants. The team as a whole provide patient focused care and a high quality service.
I really appreciate you guys being open for emergency dental treatment during the lockdown period. You saved my day, could have been so much worse.
Thank you Stuart for the wonderful job you have made of my two front teeth. They look better than they have for a very long time.
I am so grateful that you offered me the option to splint my wobbly teeth. It has been the best choice for comfort and affordability. I am so thrilled with the results and the fact that now I don't need a denture.
Alix is always very thorough in the explanations she provides for options of dental treatments. I always feel able to make an informed choice and the quality of her work is excellent.
We have attended Elizabeth Street Dental Practice for many years and have always found the team to very caring and friendly. Thank you for looking after us so well.
As you know Stuart I am a very nervous patient. You were so gentle and I didn't even feel you giving me my injection. I will definitely be coming back and recommending you to my friends.
